Abstract: In the face of advancing climate change, the use of renewable energy in private households is becoming increasingly relevant. Households act as both energy consumers and potential energy producers. Their integration requires innovative approaches to overcome technical, economic and social barriers. In this context, the design thinking approach offers a user-centered methodology for developing sustainable energy concepts. This article examines the role of design thinking in promoting renewable energy in households. Based on a comprehensive literature review and the analysis of existing case studies, it is shown that design thinking produces creative and practical solutions through iterative processes. The approach addresses technological uncertainties, economic challenges and social acceptance problems by systematically integrating technical requirements and real user needs.

The results make it clear that prosumer households in particular, which both consume and produce energy, can be specifically supported through design thinking in order to increase self-sufficiency and grid stability. It also shows that participatory and transparent design processes are key success factors for the social acceptance of renewable energy. Overall, it can be seen that design thinking can make a decisive contribution to the practical, user-oriented development of sustainable energy concepts. Through the structured implementation of the six phases of design thinking, innovative solutions are created that take into account both technical feasibility and social and economic viability. The consistent application of this approach can make a significant contribution to accelerating the decarbonization of energy in the private sector and establishing sustainable transformation processes at household level.

Abstract: The applied research is the design and development of an automated folding and sewing machine for pleated pants. It represents a significant advancement in addressing the challenges associated with manual sewing processes. Traditional methods for creating pleats are labour-intensive, prone to inconsistencies, and require high levels of skill, making automation a critical need in the apparel industry. This research explores the technical feasibility and operational benefits of integrating advanced technologies into garment production, focusing on the creation of an automated machine capable of precise folding and sewing operations and eliminating the marking operation.

The proposed machine incorporates key features such as a precision folding mechanism integrated into the automated sewing unit with real-time monitoring capabilities. The results demonstrate remarkable improvements: the standard labour time has been reduced by 93%, dropping from 117 seconds per piece to just 8 seconds with the automated system. Similarly, machinery time improved by 73%, and the total output rate increased by 72%. These enhancements translate into a cycle time reduction from 117 seconds per piece to an impressive 33 seconds, enabling manufacturers to meet customer demand more swiftly. By eliminating manual marking processes, the machine not only reduces labour costs but also minimizes waste through consistent pleat formation. This automation aligns with industry trends toward sustainability and efficiency, potentially reducing environmental impact by decreasing material waste and energy consumption.

Moreover, the system's scalability allows operators to manage multiple machines, further boosting productivity. This adaptability makes it a versatile solution for various manufacturers, accommodating different production needs effectively. The research underscores the transformative potential of automated seam folding and sewing machines in the apparel industry, providing valuable insights for manufacturers seeking to adopt cutting-edge technologies. By streamlining operations and improving consistency, this system positions manufacturers at the forefront of innovation, enabling them to meet evolving consumer demands and remain competitive in a rapidly changing market. The concrete data on efficiency improvements underscores the machine's value, offering clear benefits for manufacturers seeking to adopt cutting-edge technologies and enhance their competitive edge.

Abstract: Transfemoral amputation, also known as above-knee amputation, is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of a limb above the knee joint, such an individual requires a transfemoral prosthetic socket which accommodates the residual limb (stump) to enable the attachment of artificial limbs. In this research, a prototype transfemoral prosthetic socket was developed from raffia palm fibre-groundnut shell powder/epoxy hybrid composite using the hand lamination technique. Raffia palm fibre and groundnut shell powder were chemically treated with 0.1 mol NaOH solution at room temperature. Raffia palm fibre was weaved in 0/90^o fibre orientation mat and the groundnut shell was crushed to powder of size 300 µm. The hybrid composite was developed by lamination lay-up technique. Three samples were laminated using 1-layer of woven raffia palm fibre and 1.9% of groundnut shell powder, 2-layers of woven raffia palm fibre and 3.8% of groundnut shell powder and 3-layers of woven raffia palm fibre and 5.7% of groundnut shell powder. Samples of the hybrid composite were characterized by subjecting them to fracture toughness test, impact resistance test, fatigue life test and compressive test. The results showed that 2-layers of woven raffia palm fibre and 3.8% of groundnut shell powder epoxy hybrid composite had optimum mechanical properties; fracture toughness 35.70 MPa, impact strength 18.04 MPa, fatigue life 1.3 ×10³ cycles to failure at 600 MPa applied stress, the compressive strength in the composite was 13.73 MPa. Consequently, 2-layers of woven raffia palm fibre and 3.8% of groundnut shell powder was deployed in the lamination of prototype transfemoral prosthetic socket. Results of the finite element analysis (FEA) of prototype socket showed equivalent Von Mises stress maximum value of 26.661 MPa. The simulated total average deformation in the socket 54.79 mm. The maximum value of the maximum principal stress in the socket 13.936 MPa. The maximum value of the safety factor in the socket was 15. The simulated values confirm that the socket is optimized by use of natural fibres without compromising socket performance. Based on the results obtained from the research, it is recommended that 2-layer woven raffia palm fibre-groundnut shell/epoxy (2-layer woven RPF-GNS/Epoxy) hybrid composite be deployed for lamination of prosthetic sockets.

Abstract: This applied research study investigates the integration of air-permeability on the woven textile fabric into garment automation processes, focusing on enhancing efficiency and product quality in modern apparel manufacturing. Air-permeable fabrics, renowned for their breathability and comfort, are widely used in sectors such as sportswear and activewear. However, these materials pose challenges not to applying vacuum suction technology for grabbing fabric when applying vacuum suction grabbing technology for automated handling during loading and unloading of woven fabric in automated machines. Based on experimental calculations and analysis, it was determined that air-impermeable woven fabrics can be effectively grasped by vacuum suction grippers.

The research explores how the textile structure of woven fabrics can be optimized for use within automated systems, addressing both the challenges and opportunities associated with their application. The methodology included a comprehensive literature review to understand current practices in garment automation, followed by experiments and simulations to evaluate the performance of air-permeable fabrics in automated machinery. Key factors such as yarn structure, permeability coefficient, pore length, pore width, and pore area were analyzed using specific formulas to assess how these properties influence grabbing technology for garment automation.

In conclusion, this research provides valuable insights for manufacturers seeking to integrate air-permeable fabrics into automated systems, offering recommendations for fabric selection and process adaptations. These findings contribute to the advancement of garment automation, supporting the production of innovative and efficient apparel products through robotic automation within the garment and textile industries.

This system reduces maintenance costs and downtime by eliminating friction, enhancing operational efficiency. It transports goods swiftly with minimal energy consumption, optimizing resource use and supporting sustainability. AI integration enables real-time monitoring and adaptive control, allowing businesses to respond to production demand fluctuations and streamline supply chain operations.

The AI Maglev Conveyor offers smooth, silent operation, accommodating diverse product types and sizes for flexible manufacturing without extensive reconfiguration. This applied research paper introduces the Maglev Conveyor system, featuring an electromagnetic controller and multiple movers to enhance automation. Abstract: High-rise buildings minimize the use of high-density construction materials to reduce the weight of the building. One of construction parts that can be employed to reduce weight in buildings is a partition wall. Partition walls compartmentalize the building and define the spaces within it and are traditionally made of concrete masonry. Because of the high weight of concrete, there is need for a sustainable light weight alternative material.  In this work, raffia palm fibre-groundnut shell powder/fine clay filler reinforced epoxy composite has been developed for application in interior partition walls of buildings. The composite was produced using hand lay-up lamination technique. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength, flexural strength, compressive and impact resistance which are critical for materials used in the partition walls were evaluated. The results indicate; the tensile strength of composite is in the range 7.056-17.845 MPa. The Young’s modulus of composite is in the range of 67.18-220.04 MPa. The modulus of elasticity (MOE) values ranged from 2343.75-3906.25 MPa. The modulus of rupture (MOR) values ranged from 25.78-70.31 MPa. Compressive strength of composite ranged from 9.4-29.0 MPa. The impact strength values ranged from 0.70-3.60 J/mm² in the composites. The study concluded that, based on the results obtained, the composite has sufficient mechanical properties suitable as an alternative construction material for replacement of concrete masonry in partition wall applications.

Abstract: The garment industry is experiencing a transformative shift by integrating intelligent learning technologies, including machine learning (ML) and deep learning. This applied research with case study examines the application of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for automating quality control in garment manufacturing, specifically focusing on the detection of sewing lines in captured images. Manufacturers can enhance efficiency, improve product quality, and reduce operational costs by utilizing advanced data analytics and image processing techniques. The CNN model is trained to identify unique features of sewing lines, allowing for real-time comparisons between machine outputs and standard benchmarks. This intelligent learning approach not only streamlines the inspection process but also enables predictive maintenance and data-driven decision-making, fostering adaptability to market demands. The findings highlight the potential of AI-driven solutions to replace manual inspections, ultimately driving innovation and sustainability in garment production.
